What You’ll Do
Gather in Oaxaca for a Muertos-themed welcome drink, traditional foods and an in-depth presentation on the history and evolution of Day of the Dead. Learn about altar symbolism, mezcal and local perspectives, then help build an ofrenda and optionally add a small photo of a loved one. Finish by walking together to that evening’s pantheon, where the host explains how to move respectfully among families, candles, flowers and graves.
Why We Recommend It
If you are choosing only one cemetery-focused activity, this is the most rounded option in the set. It prepares visitors before they enter the pantheon, combines history with food and altar-building, and places respect for local families at the centre rather than treating the cemetery as a spectacle.
Booking Details
Separate fixed-date departures: 31 October at Xoxocotlán, 1 November at Atzompa General (sold out), and 2 November at San Felipe. Allow extra time for Muertos traffic and taxi delays. Novelty costumes are not appropriate inside the cemetery.
