What You’ll Do
Travel to Mitla with a local guide and explore the site’s religious history, mosaic fretwork and symbolic associations with death, transition and the underworld. Afterwards, continue to a local bakery to decorate Pan de Muerto while learning how the bread functions as food, offering and ritual object. A traditional meal and non-alcoholic drink are included.
Why We Recommend It
This is one of the strongest choices for historical depth. It connects ancient Zapotec and Mixtec ideas about death with a present-day tradition people still make, share and place on altars. The shift from archaeological site to hands-on bread workshop makes the experience feel both intellectually rich and personal.
